It is not too late - they are "in the early stages"... Wink

We are in the early stages of development for a compiler and tools for writing Visual Basic (VB) programs for the Java Platform.
That means we will compile VB source code into Java class files that will run on the Java Virtual Machine. Even better, you will be
able to import existing VB6 applications into any of the Netbeans family of tools and continue to work on them. Of course I must add
a word of caution at this point. If your existing VB6 application contains any calls to the Windows 32 API, we will not be able to
emulate all these entry points. We will also not be able to handle any OCX controls that you don't have the sources for. That said,
let me show you some of the stuff we demoed yesterday in our session. The slides of the session are also available on the JavaOne
website.

Cheers, Roman

Not really if you consider that, of course, VB apps that do win32 api
calls or contain ActiveX controls won't be supported... Reminds me of CLX...

This article provides a skeleton for embedding ActiveX controls within your Java Applications. The sample project shows how to embed
the Internet Explorer 5.0 just like any other Java Widget.

solved by an undocumented API present in all versions of JDK's from Sun,
for example JDK 1.1.8, JDK 1.2.2 and JDK 1.3

Actually, doesn't work in 1.5 and is beside the point... Why would you
compile you VB6 app to Java Bytecode just to get a Windows-only Java app ?

from http://blogs.sun.com/roller/page/herbertc/Weblog :
"If your existing VB6 application contains any calls to the Windows 32

Actually, every technology could have a tremendous success if it is
supported by an excellent marketing campaign..

"marketing is all, innovation is nothing..".. Microsoft .Net..
