|
|
We are glad to announce the release of HelpNDoc v1.3, a freeware, easy to
use yet powerful and intuitive tool to create html help files.
http://www.ibe-software.com/products/software/helpndoc/
HelpNDoc provides a clear and efficient interface to build the most amazing
html help files without worrying about the inner working of help file
generation. You just have to enter your text in the built-in word processor
and hit the "Compile" button to obtain a fully functional help file which
looks exactly as you designed it.
Forget about bloated user interfaces and incomprehensible tools. HelpNDoc
has been engineered to provide the most advanced functionalities in their
simplest form: creating html help files is usually a painful process but
thanks to HelpNDoc you may surprise yourself enjoying it!
You know how to use windows explorer and your favorite word processor? Then
you already know how to use HelpNDoc: it's that easy! Add to that many
powerful features such as live spell checking in a fully WYSIWYG (What You
See Is What You Get) environment and you'll begin to imagine how fast and
easy it will be for you to create your next help file and how professional
it will look like.
New features of v1.3 includes:
-Internal HND format has been fine-tuned to provide better speed and size.
Gain is proportional to project complexity but for reference: For a simple
help file such as the one from HelpNDoc, the loading time is divided by 2
and the file size is only 70% of the original; For a bigger file, the
loading is 30 times faster for a size of 64% of the original
- Search and replace algorithm have been optimized. Speed is 6 times faster
for a small size project and increases with project size.
- Possibility to change font and character set of the table of content in
CHM files
- Detailed hint for each node: indicates the URL of the node in the CHM
file, context number and the topic ID if required
- When a HND file was opened via the explorer, its name was converted to
upper case
- Various bug fixes and more...
You can have more information, see screenshots as well as download your free
version at:

Best regards,
The HelpNDoc team.

There are probably quite a few that are non-profit, which is included. For
example, I write software for an educational institution.
From their web site:
HelpNDoc is totally free, without any limitation, for personal use only
(this means for non-profit and non-commercial uses).

It's also not expensive for paid for use either, but it would be less
misleading to not call it freeware. On the other hand it will get it
noticed I suppose. It's not going to replace Help and Manual yet though.

Well I trialled help and manual (and others) and decided on HelpNDoc. I
couldn't justify the cost of Help and Manual and after sending some
queries to IBE support (and getting super fast responses) I liked what
they said and decided to buy it immediately.
I also have an IDE Addin that enhances the HelpContext property editor
to display and select help contexts from your HelpNDoc file that's
associated with the project. I haven't tried it with 1.3 though as I
see they have changed the project format.

You may want to consider the freeware HelpMaker, the only freeware
Help Authoring Tool to make WinHelp, HTML_Help files.
It is freeware, even for commercial usage. There is newsgroup support.
