Hi there,
My name is Amy, nice to meet you all. I am hoping someone will be able
to offer me some advice. I am a software engineer (for the past 5
years using delphi) but have never had to tackle anything quite like
this.
I am researching writing an application that requires communication
between a server app and and remote client app.
The exact scenario is the client on a remote pc (laptop with cell
connection) and a server application running back at the office. I
want the client app to blindly send back information to the server
app, such as current location (gps) e.t.c. I would like the server app
to be able to dispatch 'command's and jobs to the client application.
The client and server apps will be operating over either a LAN/WAN or
the Internet.
I am not entirely sure where to be looking to get started - and was
hoping to get advice on that. Should i be looking at using sockets to
communicate between the client and server? or are there other
alternatives around that may be more suitable? I have had no
experience with the Intraweb componentes, is that something that is a
possibility?
Any help will be greatly appreciated, and I can answer any questions
if it helps to get more information. I am sorry if this is a bit of a
basic question, but I am really just looking for advice on what I need
to start looking at and researching.
Thanks so much,
Amy. |
