I have reasonable experience as a programmer and probably know the basics of
data base designs but I am new to Windows, C++ Builder and data base
programming.
I have been assigned to write a program for the company I work for which
requires accessing data from the companies ORACLE data base. I have trying
to find out how to do this and not having much luck.
Here is basically what I know,
We currently have a similar application written by a contract programmer
that use an ODBC tool that our IT department provides. The program is
written VB and am still trying to figure out exactly how it manages to
connect to ORACLE. I have the book "Guide for C++ Builder 6 Development"
from Samms publisher (not sure of the name but only 1 of 2 books that seem
to be available) . I have tried to reade the chapters on database design but
find it very confusing, what and where is the data base they are connecting
to, etc. Always appears that they are connecting to a database on the
current machine and was created use the Borland DB tools.
I figure that ADO is way to go with this and I am trying to find out as much
as I can from the web about ADO but it is rough going.
I would appreciate if any one can help point me in the right direction to
find out more and how to exactly connect to ORACLE. Are there any good books
or websites, etc or any helpful tips you can give me.
Thanks in advance.

Hello.
Have you tried Oracle Data Access Components (ODAC) developed by Core Lab?
They are fast and convenient. With Net option ODAC allows to connect without
Oracle client software installed on workstation. More information about ODAC
available on this page: http://crlab.com/odac/.
If you encounter any problem using ODAC or have any extra questions, just
ask about it on our forum: http://crlab.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=5
Best regards,
Antaeus, Core Lab Team
