Hi,

I have a problem with my Delphi 7 on W2K Workstation (SP4). I didn't start
D7 for a few days, and now I'm unable to start it, better, I can't go into
the IDE any longer. Task manager shows up delphi32.exe for a few seconds,
the task bar icon appears, and then it disappears without any error
message.
On the same machine, I have also D5 installed. When starting D5 after
successful D7 activity, D5 asks me if I would change the settings for the
Just-In-Time debugger (where I'm responding Yes). Vice versa, after working
on D5 projects, closing D5 and opening D7, D7 asks me the same thing.

When I now started D5, responded Yes to the question, closed D5
successfully and tried to start D7, the question for the Just-In-Time
debugger appears (I choose Yes), but D7 IDE won't start.

I had the same problem on another D5 installation a few weeks ago, and the
only option was to reinstall D5 :-(

I didn't change anything to the D7 or Windows environment, I didn't add or
change components (as far as I know), so how can I get it working again or
where to look for problems?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

TIA,
Michael

Addendum:

I just tried to re-register, but the software told me registration is ok. I
also tried to re-install update #1 - installation had no errors but D7
won't still start. I forgot to mention it's D7 Architect.

++ Problem solved - no further action needed ++

In another newsgroup, I found a possible solution for my problem. And
indeed it was MS Security Hotfix 840987 - after deinstallation, the
problem's gone and I can restart D7 again.

But what are the drawbacks deinstalling this hotfix? Does anyone know the
exact reason why this hotfix prevents D7 from starting/working?

Does anyone know if MS is about to fix this or if Borland issues a
workaround for the (unknown) problem?

Any help or info would be greatly appreciated!

TIA,
Michael
