I come to the conclusion that Borland has stopped the Delphi 2005 Win32
development.

- no Delphi 64-bit roadmap
- no VCL-UNICODE support
- no Generics
- no Operator Overloads
- no further D2005.Net enhancements for the Win32 version
- no Linux/cross platform vision
- no major bug fixing

Dexter and Highlander (Win32) will receive some cosmetic pieces. I think
it is time for a strong commitment (positive or negative) and a detailed
road map.

- not much added to the VCL / components for Delphi for Win32 since D6 . . .

.. . . so it's an easy conclusion to come to.

I hope D2006 proves the conclusion that Borland have put Delphi for Win32 in
a Kylix-style 'stasis' wrong . . .

oh, and none of the real improvements in MDA/ECO/modelling at the architect
level that Delphi for .net has received . . .

Why do you say that Borland has stopped Win32 development. They added many
new features in the win32 compiler that you mention nothing about. Many bug
fixes. They integrated Win32 into the new IDE. There is no indication that
Win32 will not continue to be worked on.

The most important thing Borland could focus on now is stability and speed
in the new IDE. When that is in order, I'm sure they will focus on the parts
that are most wanted.

They also did post some sort of roadmap in here some time ago for dexter and
highlander, and they are not just some cosmetic pieces. If you have read the
posts in here you should agree on that.

Hi

They added a new memory manager.

-inline (does not work 100%, see QC's)
-for in loop
I think very few since Delphi 6 (2001). The majority goes to the .Net side.

Sorry, you take me for a ride? Have you read the D2005 issues in QC and NG?

I do not know any roadmap.

Isn't that exactly why they should concentrate on stability and speed for
the next version?

As usual, your "conclusions" are off the mark and even your supporting
speculation is unusually wobbly.

I come to the conclusion that you are just using outrageous claims to
try and provoke some kind response from a Borland employee. Good luck
with that.

Don't forget that Intel is making a lot of research on a new processor
(that will not be based on x86), if this processor becomes real, Win32
and Win64 applications will be useless...

Nope. Dead end. Won't happen. Someone else might make a new processor not
based on the x86 that Microsoft will use, but it won't be Intel.

I concur.

Everything in this post is mere opinion.
It might be very well formed opinion based
on an uncanny grasp of the facts, but it
remains opinion nevertheless.

I come to that conclusion, too. Delphi 2006 will be out in some months, so
do you really think that Borland will add new features like Gerics in Delphi
2005? Hey, why no Win64 compiler for Delphi 5? And about operator overload:
PLEASE. NO!

What have you been smoking?

Do you really think that Intel would stop making IA32 compatible chips so
that the enormous market that they have helped create in the last 25 years
would die off?

Intel needs Microsoft, and Microsoft needs Intel. It's that simple.
