|
|
A while back, I bought Delphi 3 Professional and installed it on my
computer (Windows 2000). This was a while back, and since then I both
lost my D3 Professional disc and just recently bought D3 Standard to
replace it. At which point you see where I made my mistake, I didn't
check to make sure I was buying the same version.
So, I have D3Pro on my Win2K machine, and I've got D3 Standard installed
on my Win98 bitty box. Is it safe to copy things like WINSOCK.PAS and
the like over and install them as components for my Standard edition?
Will D3 Standard recognize and properly install/compile D3 Professional
libraries?
Thanks in advance!

I haven't tested with D3, but with later versions of Delphi this won't
work in some cases. The compiler puts resources in the EXE which cause,
for example, "Enterprise"-level components not to work with an EXE
built with the "Professional" compiler. (Etc.)

Urg. Then is there a network library for D3 Standard?

I have no idea. You could try Indy and see if it works, but D3 is very
old, so I wouldn't have high hopes.

If you can find a copy, "Delphi für Kids" by Hans-Georg Schumann
came with a cd containing the full version of Delphi 3 Pro. Both the
English and German editions are on the cd.
Good luck.
