|

Hi,
I've recompiled an application with Delphi 7, which previously were compiled with Delphi 6. The compiled application does not want to start on NT 4 machines and locks the CPU at 100% use. Similarly, I've tried to install the Remote Debugger (from the D7 disk) on an NT4.0 machine. This exhibits the exact same behaviour, refuses to install and locks the CPU at 100%. Following this, I've now also checked the technical specs for D7, and see no mention of NT support... 98 yes, 2000 yes but no NT support is mentioned... Does this really mean that NT 4 is not supported by D7? Can this be true? <shock /> <horror />
I might add that the recompiled app works fine on Windows XP for example.
I really hope there's a way around this - this application still has to run on a great number of NT boxen, but if the compiler/toolset doesn't support it then that's a bit of a fundamental problem... :-)
Thanks
Walter

Not true. Can you try the simplest possible VCL Delphi app on the NT 4
box?

Mike,
Thanks for your response... OK. Should have tried that myself. I've just tried the simplest possible app and that worked on one of the machines that I think have been having the problem (I'll have to verify that that is the case.) But, suffice to say that it's not something intrinsic to D7 and NT4.0, there's something else going on. It doesn't explain why the Remote debugger server won't install/had the same symptoms when I tried to install that to debug the problem though. Anyway it gives me something to work with (inasmuch as it must be something in the environment here rather than something wrt D7.) Should have known really, but the Remote debugger failing to install is what made me wonder...
Thanks again, I'll post back once I've done more testing and at least gone back to the particular machine we've demonstrated the problem on before.

Good luck; let us know when you figure it out. Often times problems like
this are due to missing pieces like DLL's or ActiveX's. One approach might
be to first determine if the problem app uses anything else that requires a
separate installation. Another thing that might help you it to use the
file monitoring program from SysInternals. It will let you watch in real
time what's being loaded (or failed load attempts) while the program is
running.
