|
|
I tried to install D7 Pro yesterday on my XP computer which already has
D5 + D6 Pro installed and the Component Pallete was almost empty. The
only things there were an icon for TFrame and the MadExcept tab. Another
strange thing was that the default project was a console program. I did
a custom install for a single user and tried to place D7 on my D
partition. After reading some posts I tried to add all the BPL's which
was partially successful. All the components were there but there still
wasn't a new application option. So I removed D7 and went home.
My plan today is to do the typical install for all users and install it
on my C partition but first I thought I'd see if anyone knows what I
need to do to get D7Pro install correctly. Perhaps I should remove
MadExcept first.

Forgot one thing, every time I'd close D7 I'd get a AV.

Got tired of waiting for advice and reinstalled and everything was fine. |
I can't believe that any of the above items would make a difference so
that leaves the possibility that some D5, D6 or component processes were
still running and loused up the install.
Now on to the hard stuff.

You probably started installing tird party components before running Delphi for
hte first time. You can not do anything that would create the registry entries
before hte first run, this includes registering with the standalone registry
program or installing third party components.

Thanks Jeff but that's not the case. Its either the custom install |
settings I used (doubtful) or component processes still running from D5
or D6 which I'd been using all day. Since MadExcept was the component
that shows up and it does quite a bit of low level processing (it even
catches IDE exceptions sometimes) that's my chief suspect. Either way
its now solved and I've got my components installed.
