|
|
I own a copy D7 Enterprise and I recently installed it on my new computer. I
went through the registration process and it tells me that my serial number
has reached the maximum number of installs for me (!!). The only solution
seems to register by phone to a foreign (!) number. Is there really no other
way for me to register?
I can appreciate that Borland want to limited the number of pirated copies
and stuff, but rather than making those people's life difficult, they are
making mine "difficult".
Cheers, Alan.

Well, you need to call Borland. Really, sorry but I don't think their
is a different way. I also have the problem each time, because I
re-install my PC quite a lot.

Hmm... that is really not great at all! Don't they reset the counter or
something after you ring them? I mean I am sure I will reinstall it again in
the future, so...
Cheers, Alan.

Yes, they increase your number of installs by one if you are lucky with
two

Why? For a single licensed user you get 10 right away and then once you exceed
10 you extend by two. Most people don't even know this exists because they
never come close to the ten. This policy has been in place since D6 shipped
almost 4 years ago. This comes up every couple of months at most so most people
aren't hitting this at all.

My point exactly! What's the point of such a limitation then?! All that it
has managed to achieve for me is to make me annoyed with Borland. What a
result!

Is this for all versions or just enterprise?

Hi,
I agree.
All we understand the piracy combat need, and we know that Borland
"thinks" it is reducing piracy. But in reality all we know that the
warez and real commercial pirates around already cracked the product -
so the main vilains are not affected.
But we, the legitim consumers, who paid for the product, are! Such
stress shouldn't happen. At least Borland should reset the 10 installs
limit, and let it's customer forget the subject for a longer while...
If it is so eventual as Jeff said, they will have no risk after all.
