Does anyone have some information as to when Borland is going to release
Delphi 8? I have been reading various web sites and most of the stories
were written last year stating it would be out by now. That news is
apparently stale.

p.s. I used to follow news about Borland quite closely, but have not read
about them for several years. I am just now seeing news that is well over a
year old regarding a proposed merger with Corel. Did that ever go through?

Thanks
Alan

Are there any screenshots out there?

Delphi for .NET was shown for the first time to public one week ago in
Germany. I have not found any information about that (no screenshots
etc.). The official word is that next Delphi is out before end of the year.

Delphi 8 will still be for win32. I don't think anything has been said
about that one.

Next Delphi is "Delphi for .NET": http://dotnet.borland.com/

BZZT! Wrong answer!

Delphi 8 (AKA Octane) will support both Win32 and .NET.
See the links that David Smith just posted in this thread.

If both compilers are included, I think you won't find much new in the
win32 version.

Well, the links to the "open letter" and "Octane Q&A" have just
been revised since I posted, and it looks like my answer is no
longer correct. I don't know whether Uffe was just being skeptical,
or whether he had inside information before the public announcement
was made.

So, the latest seems to be:
* Only Delphi for .NET will be released before the end of the year.
* It's not clear how it will be packaged and sold, or what will
be "Delphi 8."
* There will be continued Win32 development, but we'll not see
any new Win32 product this year.

Er... I think you should read the newest Open Letter and Octane FAQ. <g>

Thank goodness they finally split the Win32 and .NET versions of Delphi.
I use Win32-only and no way was I going to upgrade to a slow clunky .NET
interface. I hope they always keep Delphi32 lean and mean and free of
..NET. Win32 is going to be around for 20 years to come, and .NET still
needs a lot of quirks worked out of it.

Octane is based on the same IDE as C#Builder, and that is not slow or
clunky at all.
