This is the first time I have really tried to look at how wide a reach the
Delphi Blogshpere actually has.

I compiled quite a list so far and I am sure I am not done.

Does Dr. Bob have a atom/rss feed? If so, I don't see one on his site...

I'll ask after other luminaries in this thread as it occurs to me...

<sigh> now don't get me wrong, there's lots of good material in the
blogs I'm reading, but somehow I wish people would just post their
stories/observations/opinions in a "neutral" forum like delphi non-tech
(like the good old days).

The difference between an NG post and a blog entry is that an NG can
somewhat resemble a community, whereas a 'blogsphere' seems more like a
big ocean with thousands of little islands, no strings attached, each
self-proclaimed guru being able to rant on without censure or
contradiction (if anybody cares to read). On the whole, I feel it's not
a positive overall direction for online discourse between professionals.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

Who knows if Microsoft has something similar, and where is it?

I hear ya. But I think there is something completely different going on
with the emerging blogsphere, especially when there is a community focus.
The quality (on many levels) definitely varies from blog to blog, but that
is really a lesser issue for me. I easily (instantly) filter out blogs that
I don't think return value for the time I just spent reading it... Those
blogs will immediately go to the bottom of the list.

But what really intrigues me with this new form of communication, is the
overall community gestalt that effortlessly emerges from the blogsphere as a
whole. I find it pretty interesting. And its definitely early days yet...

I think a some future socioligist could easily get a dissertation out of the
topic...

Keep watching that space around BorCon. I think you'll find your
current work, while not exactly redundant, to probably have a better
home. ;)

No doubt there are blogs that sort of "cluster up", quoting each other
over and over, etc. - and in this sense, no doubt 'communities' are
forming around the most eloquent and popular bloggers (e.g.
JoelOnSoftware's blog, which was probably one of the first in its kind).
But, I such a form of conversation is more difficult to follow, than a
threaded discussion in an NG. And the rewards of the new format are very
vague to me...

Thanks I'm not lazy (really!) I just haven't got there yet.

Let me know if you know of any MS product specific xml feeds, like JK has.

I'm not totally agreeing here.

I can speak( obviously ) only for me: the blog idea for me is that I
won't only pour out my considerations about programming( Delphi,
mainly ) but also about other things.

You can also be sure I'm not self-proclaiming to be a guru.

Quote:

Probably not, but I think you look at it from another side than me.
Blogs are just a way to let others know your opinion without
being cancelled because you chose the wrong group <g>.

Jokes aside, the basic idea of blogs is that you can express
offhand comments on whatever you like in your own blog.

That said, there may surely be someone who's going to
self-proclaim a guru and those should be filtered right away
because they're probably filled with too much selfishness to be
objective.

Just my 2c,

Andrew
