Hello, I would like to know if there are any masters/courses to learn and
practice delphi database development for a beginner, especially clientserver
and with one of the major industry standards (Oracle, etc..). I would like
to learn the various techniques used in db development and to get a starting
experience as base for a future job.
I would like to get a certification as a result of the master:
do you have any advice?
I am looking especially for courses in Europe.
Many Thanx,
Francesco.

Thanx Bob but it seems that Dr Bob gives courses of one day only a la
"convention style" that are not suitable for me. I am looking more for a
school of 1 month or more. As I said I am a beginner in database especially
client server and I want to learn doing a school cause I can't loose much
time by self teaching me such a complex and fast-changing subject. Maybe
anyone knows if there are any universities in Europe that have such courses?
TIA,
Francesco.

If it turns out that you can't find the kind of class you're looking
for, and instead end up having to learn on your own, get a copy of
Database Design for Mere Mortals. I learned a lot by reading this book.
Clear writing and explanations throughout.

That's correct. And although I also offer custom clinics on-site, they
are seldom more than 3 days in a row. A month is not something I've done
before (and frankly, given the price for one day of custom training, it
would be quite expensive for you to do that 20 days in a row ;-)

But a month is a long time, given that you learn best by doing it
(designing and implementing databases) in practice - with proper
guidance, of course. Surely, you only need a few days to read up to the
basics, and then learn in practice. There are a number of great Delphi
Database Development books (if you want to remain Delphi specific) that
can help you as well.

I think you must live with DrBob for a month.

LOL! We have a spare bedroom in our house (next to my working area), so
this might be an idea... (although I'm not sure if my kids or kids would
like that ;-)

Freudian slip, I meant to write "wife and kids" (I really did, dear ;-)

Hi Rick,

For a moment, I was wondering if you raise both goats and children. Smile

I raise kids, cats and fruit plants. My latest experiments (with plants)
involve banana and pineapple...

I have a friend with a farm who raises goats. Anyone who asks him how
many kids he has gets an answer they're not expecting. ("We had four
this year, by three different mothers. Of course, they've all got the
same father. The three from last year have all been sold off.")

LOL! Did he give them names as well?

Other than a university course I don't know where you'd find a course that
long--it's pretty unusual to find a technical training center with courses
over a week or two at most, even for complex systems.

Marco Cantu does have a couple of multi-day courses, and he's in Italy. Even
if he doesn't have exactly what you want he might be able to suggest where
you should look.

http://www.marcocantu.com/development/training.htm

Passed that, (as some other have said) books are your friend, and hang
around and ask questions in places like
borland.public.delphi.database.sqlservers

LOL. I was going to ask the same, although when I visited him, he
didn't raise both kinds of kids ;)

You also might want to check out the following:

I don't know if Rick Spence (long time Delphi guru) is still involved
but I believe this is the training company he was affiliated with.
