Overall idea to separate products might be not that bad. But as usually
people does matter.
If core people will go, it doesn't matter how much money you will inject in
corpse.

So - would you stay with product or will search for something new?

I would stay.

If they commit to supporting W32 *!and!* W64, I'd stay.
Otherwise, I'd definitely choose Chrome(*).

Dejan

(*)
I still might, though, whatever happens.

AFAIK Chrome have nothing to do with w32 or w64. Chrome *shine* in .NET
world. Why dont stay in w32 with Delphi and shine on in .NET? I guess
that wll be my election, anywhere, if D2006 dont drive me in love with
Borland again.

I will of course continue to use Delphi, but I might experiment more
with Lazarus if Borland refuses to fix bugs.

Sorry if i dont be optimist, but Lazarus have so many bugs than Delphi.
I apreciate the OS work, but your sentence have no sense. I mind, if
you dont want tricky bugs let away from Lazarus.

If Nissan commits to supporting both cars and trucks, I'd stay. Otherwise,
I'd definitely choose Planter's peanuts.

I doubt anybody on the actual Delphi development team would be reckless
enough to answer this poll here.

Just because Nissan works for you, doesn't mean we aren't experiencing
problems. Have you tried an automatic? I doubt it. In future you should
specify that you drive a manual so that those of us with automatics can bash
Nissan without your peanut references.

Dev team won't answer here, of course, but as a user, I am already phasing
Delphi out - very slowly. OTOH, if the new company is financially solid and
releases good updates, why not?

The core people have already gone to Microsoft.

The latest version of Lazarus (0.9.8 from July 21 2005) looks very
promising, it is clean and coherent, works with current Linux and I
found it to be very useful. Lazarus is in an active development and
improved dramatically in last few months, surly it has a lot of bugs
but it is not a secret and people are working on it. In my opinion at
this point Lazarus can be practically used for certain type of
development and that will accelerate its further progress and
acceptance.. Lazarus opens door to cross-platform development and
because it is open source the future of it is secured, as long as
there is some interest among Delphi/FreePascal coders.

Danny, Seppy, Allen and quite a few others are not MSFT employees.

Also, this whole argument assumes that "the core people" can't get new
entries, which of course is a foolish assumption.

How do you determine "financially solid"? The current company has over $200
million in cash and no long term debt.

[Actually, I probably shouldn't attempt to drive a stick shift, since that
requires two good arms, but that's getting off-topic.]
