Great overview. Consider adding Kylix, C#B, BCB and TP for Mac.

Hmm. I need to check my news-poster scanner. It should automatically remove
that character combination as well as names of future products such as
DeXter, , , and .

Please no! We want to hear about Kylix!

Can you perhaps throw us a bone on the future of Kylix?
The last news we heard was that your law department was still sorting
out the FreeCLX licesing stuff..

Thanks!

Man, oh man, I was born in 1971. Guess I was born to do Pascal. After some
linguistic detours I ended back up with Delphi and now I am staying.

Not really related to your post, but the list got me wondering for the
umpteenth time... what is the point of code names? For a new product I
can sort of understand it - the product doesn't have a name yet, but
meanwhile you have to call it something. But for a new version of an
existing product, where you know for example you're going to call it
"Delphi something", what use is a code name?

What about Compass Pascal? I think next version of Compass Pascal 3.0

was followed by Turbo Pascal 1.0.

i suppose among other things, it allows you to defer the decision of whether
to call it - say "Delphi 9" or "Delphi 2005" to later, while still having a
name to call it by...

One other point is that if the competition gets hold of the internal
documents or emails of the company, they shouldn't know which products
or versions the text refers to.

That made sense some years ago when code names were kept highly
internal. These days, though, how often do you read an article that
actually uses both the code name and the anticipated product name
together? For example, "The next version of X, code named Y".
