|
|
First of all, I hope this is the appropriate newsgroup for my
question.
I have been seeing some nasty bugs appear in an application
running under Windows XP. The app, which was compiled using
Delphi 5 and uses 3rd party commercial components for this
version (specifically RChart from Lohninger Software), runs
fine under Windows 2000. Two bugs which have appeared in XP
(or they might be symptoms of the same bug) are: 1) some RChart
symbols are plotted in the wrong place in an otherwise correct
plot, and 2) when floating point overflows occur in a fitting
routine (normally caught), a dialog box from an unrelated place
in the program is displayed followed by a dialog box which
complains of a memory access error (non-fatal error).
Does anyone know if there are known issues with Delphi 5 apps
compiled under Windows 2000 and run under Windows XP?
(If I can't get to the bottom of this problem, my preferred
solution is to upgrade the XP PC to 2000, because the software
has been running on 2000 for a while without any sign of this
kind of problem, generates sensible plots, comes up with the
right answers, etc.)

Interestingly, setting compatibility to Win 2000 made the graphing
bug go away - though I have no idea why! Unfortunately, it still
complains about illegal memory accesses no matter which setting I
try.
I suppose it is possible the program is faulty but doesn't show
signs of the fault under real Windows 2000. Are there any tools
available to check for memory leaks etc. in Delphi?
