Here's the thing...
We have BEX 6.0.3 for VCL and VCL.NET. I'm not thrilled with it,
although we have a lot of legacy code-based reports that use it. For
instance, the BDS2006 version is 7.0, but I can't find anything on
Rave's site that says "Here's what's new for 7.0". No indication that
anything major has happened to justify shelling out for an upgrade. So
I continue to use 6.0.3beta...
Meanwhile, my DBA (and manager/SQL Server guru) says that SQL Server
2000 Reporting Services is awesome and we should use that and that I
should just call that from within our applications (all our database
work is SQL Server and will continue to be in the future -- no multi-db
issues here).
Then I see user surveys where Rave gets pretty well blasted by
FastReport and ReportBuilder. Don't know what to make of that.
I DO want to get a reportBuilder that will go with me from VCL ->
VCL.NET if I'm going to stay with a Delphi-based reporting solution.
(Note: NOT VCL->C# -- I need migration, not re-writes).
So, anyone with experience with SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services that
can talk to me about the pros and cons of that route, as well as any
comments about FastReport/ReportBuilder or other solutions that are on
the Delphi side?
Heck, if Rave wants to tell their side of the story I'd love to hear
it, but right now it doesn't let me convert code reports to visual
reports, and it won't tell me what changed for 7.0, and their VCL.NET
reporting engine is slow as molasses compared to their Win32 version.
