I am a jbuilder newbie, and wanted to know if anyone could point me to a
good tutorial on how to deploy jbuilder 8 (personal edition) applications to
unix and windows stations....

I do not think that JBuilder 8 Personal has the Archive Builder in
it, so you would need to deploy your application using standard Java
(non-JBuilder) tools. For that, the best place to look would be the
Sun tutorials page.

You should take a look at JBuilder 9 Personal, which does have the
Archive Builder. For information on using that, look in the JBuilder
help.
