Hi! This maybe a silly question but I'm trying to deploy a project group
onto the network. The exe will work only on pc's that have delphi
installed. I get this message on pc's without delphi..."Program_Name has
generated an error and will be closed by Windows. " I've included the BPL
file in the network directory but still get that message. Are there bpl's I
need to add to the folder? I've even installed delphi onto a users machine
and then the exe worked. Any ideas????

Thanks for your help
Denise

Did you complile your application using runtime packages? If so, you
must deploy all of the runtime packages that the application requires.
It is much easier not to use runtime packages unless there is some
compelling reason to do so.

No we didn't compile using run-time packages but still got the error. Can
the exe exist on the network by itself or does our library have to be in the
same folder as the exe? We've tried both and it doesn't seem to work on the
users machine. But will work on our development machines.

Use of runtime packages is a binary condition. If you compile using
runtime packages you must deploy the BPLs with your EXE. If you do not
compile using runtime packages then you do not have to deploy the
package files. I don't think your problem has anything to do with
packages.

What is the exact text of the error message?

What O/S is the development machine running?

What O/S is the deployment machine running?

What else, besides Delphi being installed, is different about the
machines?

I'm having the same problem. I've written the same absolutely simple
program in C#, Win32, VCL for Net and WinForms for Net. The C# and Win32
executables run with just the executable file on any computer with the .Net
framework installed. They run both across the network and with the
executable file copied to the local computer. (I suspect that the Win32
executable would run without .Net framework, but I haven't tried that yet.)
Neither the VCL for Net nor the WinForms for Net executables run on a
computer without Delphi 2005 installed. I get the same error message for
both:

Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.

Process id=0x498(1176), Thread id=0x69c(1692).

Click OK to terminate the application.

Click CANCEL to debut the application.

If I try to debug, I get the following error message:

Registered JIT debugger is not available. An attempt to launch a JIT
debugger with the following command resulted in an error code of 0x2(2).
Please check couputer settings.

Cordbg.exe !0x498

. . .

I do not think you are having the same problem unless I misunderstood
Denise's environment. I think she is working with a Win32 project, not
a .NET project.

To deploy a VCL for .NET application or a Delphi for .NET WinForms
application my understanding is that there are other assemblies that
must be deployed. I am not the best persone to ask about this and you
will probably do much better asking in one of the .NET newsgroups.
