I thought a buyer for Borland IDE stuff was to be announced by the end
of September. Now it is the end of October.

Any word? Did the deal they were working on fall through?

Does the lack of response mean no one knows or no one cares?

We have a great deal invested in Borland C++ Builder. We need to know
if we can continue on with this product or if we need to rewrite with
another tool.

The company that buys these products will go a long ways towards
helping us make a decision.

They told everyone that they were working on the deal and that is what they
are doing.

It means they are probably in the legally required "quiet phase".

"quiet phase" or more correctly "quiet period" is the time before a
securities offering such as an IPO. It does not apply to the DevCo
deal unless there is to be some sort of securities issued.

That is what I heard. I don't know more, sorry.

There also is a form of quiet period in which substantive news is supposed
to not be released until it is fully formed. It then is supposed to be
broadcast widely so as to not favor insiders or those in the know. Borland
is a publicly traded company so this requirement applies to them and
therefore to things related to the spin off of the parts which we are
currently calling DevCo.

My inquiry was more in regards to "Is the deal still in the works or is
it dead?" I was expecting an announcement at the end of September. I
hadn't heard a thing so I thought maybe the deal they were working on died.

My information is that it is not dead or, as you put it, "it is still in the
works".
