Hi all

Not sure how many of you have looked at ECO but seeing as you are the type
of people I want to attract I would like your feedback on something.

http://mrpmorris.blogspot.com/2007/02/eco-jumpstart.html

I've started to plan the table of contents for a "jump start" document,
aimed at getting people from zero to hero with ECO in as little time as
possible. My ideas and concerns are outlined in the blog, I;d really
appreciate any feedback you guys have to offer as I respect your opinions.

Thanks

"The trick is to start at a level where the user knows absolutely nothing ..."
.... you'd be looking for me then. :)

I've "fidgeted" with ECO but only because owning BDS gave me the opportunity
and I really, really want to use it. Having said that the only real fidgeting
I've done was to step by step through "Using VCL.NET with ECO" an article by
David Clegg [ http://dn.codegear.com/article/33276 ].

The most significant point I want to make is your target audience. Most of
the people that will be reading the article will be Enterprise or Architect
owners - how easy do you need to be on users at that level <grin>? I wouldn't
say that you're not looking at many people people in the Pro group ...
unless, persistence isn't a significant feature in their project -or- like
me, they just want to learn about ECO. Sure, you can fidget with it as I have
[BDS 2006 Pro owner] but persistence to XML ... not a big seller for me.
Another issue that you may like to include for the DotNotters ... using ECO
with the VCL.

I'm extremely interested in reading your article(s) and would be pleased to
provide any feedback you need. I'm getting pretty good with "I haven't the
foggiest idea what that means, could you break it down a bit?"

With the exception of the bits referencing ASP there's nothing on that list I
don't want to learn. None it looks frightening at all. I'll even learn the
ASP stuff ... you lay it out simply enough.

Good luck on it,

Hi,

So far I have little or no experiance with ECO, except that I would very
much like not take advantage of it when my Arch. version arrives in a couple
of days. So at this point I do not think I'm even in a position to give you
any feedback:) But I would like to say I appriciate your efforts and very
much looking forward to reading about ECO.

Would be very nice if you at some point covered ECO multi-user support,
change propagation and reconciliation :)

regards,
Leo

"like not" or "like to"?

I have those on the list, but I'm not sure if they belong in a JumpStart
document or not. I may create two JumpStart documents, one with very basic
information and the second with slightly more advanced information. I think
though that a separate document is required to explain all of this in great
detail as apposed to the JumpStart "What is it + how do I use it quickly"
approach.

Agreed, it may not belong in a JumpStart document. I hope you find
time/place to cover those topics. Anyway I'm looking forward to the result.
