Ok, here's what's happened so far.
Events:
1) I volunteered to take over website maintenance.
2) It was decided to create a new fastcode website domain and presence.
3) Pierre has registered fastcodeproject.org and we'll use it soon.
4) Dennis Christensen sent me the content managment database file containing
the FastCode website. I downloaded and installed the Encore Pro CMS
software and exported the entire site to an external directory.
5) I uploaded the entire directory to :
http://fastcode.sourceforge.net/
6) You will see that I changed the opening verbiage to "Welcome to the
Fastcode Project Site." And, that I gave credit to Dennis Christensen for
the original design of the website. (I think more thanks should be given to
Dennis somewhere prominent on the site).
Issues:
There appears to be missing XLS and ZIP files for the "Validation and
Benchmark Tool" and "Tables of results" hyperlinks for each challenge. The
Urls are pointing to files that should exist in the subdirectory within the
site, but those files do not exist in the Content Management System database
Dennis C. sent to me.
Do we need those files? I assume we do. Please advise.

I've set it to forward to fastcode.sourceforge.net so long.

After going through Dennis' live site, its clear that the xls and zip files
represent hundreds of megabytes that definitely would have bogged down the
CMS database. So I just solved the problem by downloading every xls and zip
file by hand.
I will take me a couple days to upload all the files. I'll do it in phases.

Actually Pierre, I lined up a sponsor for the domain name. Please email me
at denins [at] dennislandi [dot] com for the ip address.

Dennis,
When would be a good time for suggestions for the site? Do you have some
ideas you want to implement first or are you open for suggestions now?
Should we email the suggestions or post here?
Thanks,

Please wait at least a week. Let me digest what I've got, and then I'll let
you know when I'm ready for more.

To all: If there are any odd xls or zip files that are missing, please try
to find them and then get them to me.

It depends on what constitues a "file release". If the benchmarks and test
results constitute a "file release" then we can simplify this process
greatly, as we remove it from the realm of "website maintenance" and any
number of managers can upload these files as necessary.
In the meantime, the zip and xls file are downloadable from the site, as
they have been up to now.

152 megs actually.
Default limit for SF websites is 100 MB, for more webspace you're
supposed
to issue a support request or webcontent may get deleted

Also file releases and large downloads should be made by the file
release system (no size limit there) to preserve webserver bandwidth.

I removed four of the biggest "log files" associated with past MM tests.
The website size is now 53 megs.

I'm not really sure either, best would be to ask SF in case of doubt.
Personally I place in the "File Release" category all things that are
susceptible to be downloaded by many and are "large" when compared to
the rest of the web content (html and images).
IMO B&V and Excel sheets are probably okay website-side, since "normal"
users are unlikely to download them in great numbers. But packaged
libraries and multi megabyte zips may be best on the FRS side though.

|
Mixed-mode might be the way: old challenges, low activity challenges
stay on the web side, very active one could go FRS-side (making it
easier for whoever is responsible of the challenge to keep things
together and timestamped).

Pierre, I'll be getting a preliminary web page up today, at least just
pointing to the FastCode Challenge page on SF.
I see the SF site doing the "heavy lifting" of the actual work of the
project.
I see the fastcodeproject.org as the "portal" or front door for the FastCode
Project and community.
To All: Let's start talking about what you want to see on this portal.
