|
|
Hello,
we are (trying) to use Delphi 8 Architecture (german edition, 7.1.1446.610) for a bigger application.
But : we have Compiler and IDE crashes, on a 2,8 GHZ PC Delphi takes up to 30 min. to restart, and so on, and so on....
This isn't funny anymore ! For us it is VERY, VERY important having a (normal) working IDE.
Where is help ?
When / where can we expect to get the adequate Update ?

Hello,
I have exactly the same problem. I think Delphi 8 German Edition is still a
beta software. But we are no beta tester, we bought it for much money! I
asked in this group for the update and a sent a mail to borland. A german
speaking man from borland told me that there should be a international
update until yesterday. Another promise without success. I'm realy tired
about this delphi version!

That's me - but I'm a private person, not a Borland staff member!
I got the answer (update until yesterday) from the German Borland Direct
Marketing Manager Sabine Pienitz (spienitz (AT) borland (DOT) com).
It would be better, if Borland will publish a kind of roadmap what they have
to do until the German release and what they have done...

Hi Martin,
I didn't mean you. I've got a telephone call from a borland member. And he
also told me that he thinks that there will be an update until yesterday.
Better than a roadmap would be a functionally software! I'm very angry
because if I buy a software I'm not used to be a beta tester. I need a RAD
Tool do develop solutions and not to test the RAD Tool! I think Borland
comes nearer to Microsoft (but Microsoft is better now!).
Sorry that I made you to a Borland Staff Member, Martin!

Hello Juergen,
An Update to German Delphi 8 Arch was made available very recently. You
will need to log in and get it from the registered user section of the
website. Part of the bug fixes addresses possible crash to compiler (and
subsequent IDE problem) Please start from
http://borland.com/products/downloads/download_delphi_net.html
Can you provide more specifics with regards to your setup for D8? In our
experience, startup takes less than a minute on very, very slow system
(generally ~15 seconds), but you're reporting 30 min? One possible apparent
lack of activity can be that the program was not yet registered and the
registration wizard dialog was hidden behind other windows. But in this
case, you would never actually see the Delphi IDE.
Regards,
Zoya (& Calvin)

Hello Zoya (& Calvin),
thank you very much ! The Update was downloaded and already installed. )
The versions are registered (should be, you also can see the text "registered" in a dialog box of D . (We could also try to do it again, would be no problem).
The problems start when I try to open our project: at that moment the CPU use goes up to 99% - 100 %. The memory in use is somewhere between 350 MB and 450 MB. Normaly the IDE windows turns blank, and then you have to wait, and wait, and wait...
Talked to my workmates. The average waiting time is something between 30 min and 45 min (2,8 Ghz, 512 MB (tried up to 1024 MB, with almost no effect), WinXP).
Yesterday I made the mistake trying to open our project on my "normal" PC (1.6 Ghz, 512 MB, Win XP).
After 90 min I went home (but: this moring the project is open).
So, you can say this isn't nice, BUT in combination with the crashes of the IDE in D8 it turns to a very BIG problem. The IDE is still crashing (even after the Update 2, not this often, but still 3 to 6 times a day), and then you have to wait again.
Hours of waiting.
Is there a switch we overlooked, so we can switch off this behavior ?
Is it possible to use the "good old" D7 IDE (and just giving it the new D8 Compiler) ?
Best regards from germany
