Hello, after using Java for a while I've decided to brush up on C++ so I
downloaded the free command line compiler. I was hoping to try more
native Windows type programming, but I'm wondering how do you guys get
info on the Builder API's? I'm guessing the IDE has coverage of these in
help files etc? For the free command line compiler am I just stuck
trawling through the library source code(!)?

Cheers

Try MSDN:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp

.... and click on the link, "Win32 and COM Development."

Thanks for that. I'll have a look.

What do you mean by Builder APIs? The free command line compiler is
pretty old now. You'd probably be better off with the free MS Visual
C++ toolkit or almost free? CBuilderX personal - which has a nice
looking IDE and version 2 coming out sometime apparently, (don't know
if CBX 2 will have a free personal version though)

http://www.borland.com/cbuilderx/

http://msdn.microsoft.com/visualc/vctoolkit2003/

You can order a Micorsoft platform SDK CD here for a nominal amount
which has all the Win32 API info. (or you can download it all)

Just the libraries used by the Borland compiler. Basically the
documentation to use them.

I didn't realise CBX had a free version. I see the personal version says
"free personal trial" so I assumed it would expire. I am dloading it now
though, thanks for the link.

Didn't realise the MS one was free either (except for the betas).

Yeah I was looking at the MS SDK too. To be honest I'm not too bothered
if it isn't up to the minute, but reasonably new is fine.

Thanks for the links.
