|

I was trying to work through the first tutorial so i could evaluate
switching to Rave, but I am having problems.
I dropped three components on a form:
TRvProject
TRvDatasetConnection
TDBISAMTable
I connected the TRvDatasetConnection to the TDBISAMTable.
I open the report designer and cannot figure out how to use the data.
The QuickStart tutorial says I need to select Project | New Dataview, but
option is not on my menu.
Is the documentation incorrect or is my install missing something?
Thanks,
-Johnnie

Hi Johnnie,
Thank you for including your Rave product (BE or BEX) and version number. Please do this in ALL support messages. It helps us (support and other users) provide a better answer.

I think the problem you are having is that the "project" tab is already open. If you go to the top group of icons and click on the 6th icon (VIEW) that is for a new data object.
Another suggestion would be to look at the RaveDemo and use it to explore some of the "standard" reports. What I did in Delphi was "Open Project" and go to my install folder - "Program Files -> Borland -> BDS -> 4.0 -> RaveReports -> Demos -> Visual" and load the RaveDemo. Probably the first thing I would do is just "run" the RaveDemo and play with it a bit. Then after you see some of the sample reports, then I would look at the "design" and "code" pages. Launch the Rave IDE (double-click) on the RvProject component on the "Main" page.

Yes, I got it to link, but I believe the documentation QuickStart may not
reflect the current version and menus in 6.5.0.
I'll have to install the BDE for the demo as I see it is a requirement.
Thanks for your assistance. I'll be back for more most likely.

Sorry - I don't ever see a reason to use Delphi or VCL.NET for my .NET
applications, especially since I am targeting NET 2.0
But I will be taking the time to test Rave with my Win32 applications and
see it compares to ReportBuilder which I currently use in D6.
