I installed the update at home, and it went at a fair pace. I installed
at work, and it was slow. I was watching in the task manager where all
of the CPU cycles were going. McAfee was eating up 50% of the CPU. Once
I closed it, the update went quicker. I don't use anti-virus at home, so
I guess that is why it went faster.
Bottom line: Disable your anti-virus program while installing the update.

I think that it's a McAfee thing. We would disable it whenever doing
any big installs, such as the MSDN library. That's one of the reasons
that we don't use it anymore.

Yup. I made a mental note of this a while ago with NAV when installing D7 and
VS.NET. Darn thing would make the install slow to a crawl. The only good thing
I noticed with NAV is that every now and then it would pop up a dialog by my
system tray to stop it from scanning large files.

Comes right after "Swimming in a shark tank" on my list "Things You Do
To Regret". Let it take some time then. But I do not have the problem
anyhow. The only thing that slows down any D2005 install are the
poor-quality CDs. I made copies and it works real quick now. AFAIK it
is legal to make copies of them as far as you keep them for yourself...

Must admit, I thought it was just me, the cd's did seem to be very poor
quality, and that happens from time to time.
I also simply copied the cd's, then had no problem (with Mc Affee still
on as well)
Wonder if anyone else had the same issue/result.
Cheers Tim.

BTW, took 3 attempts to copy one of the cd's as well, and was real slow
copying.
