I've traditionally used Google to browse the delphi newsgroups, but in the
last year or so have been suffering as a result of Borlands reorganistion of
their group hierachy - Google/usenet network seems to be lagging in picking
up the new groups (and yes, I have emailed Google support) however if I use
my Outlook newsreader pointed directly to the borland server I don't get the
depth of archive that Google provides and the search functionality bites in
comparisition.
How are you all out there coping with this??
Cheers
Richard.

I don't use Google, don't like the format.
I use www.tamaracka.com. No need to worry about the group
hierarchy.

No need to suffer with this malware magnet, there are lots of better
news readers and mail clients .

I use Mozilla and store newsgroups locally. When I have to search far
back I usually use Google. When it then turns out that the group I need
is one of these renamed groups I curse at both Google and Borland for
not solving this problem, and then head over to:

I'm finding it irritating. Google advanced group search allows me to find
what I want with ease. Tamarack seems to have very few search options, and
very little flexibility in how you view the results. Maybe it's just me, but
so far I've found Tamarack almost useless.

How does that help, Dave? Your choice of newsreader isn't going to prevent
the purging, is it? And Google advanced groups search definitely doesn't
find stuff that Google has kept.

You keep the messages. In a separate archive if you want.
You run it 24x7 in the taskbar. Have batches setup to retrieve all
messages (full) and set the batches to run every xx minutes.

If you have high-speed connection, or you can online 24 hours, keep
Xananews open, setup a batch process that download messages every 30
minutes. You will have a nice archive there.

That's fine for people that have a 24x7 connection, and don't need to watch the downloads.

Sure it is. i don't believe the original poster stated specific
requirements. I was just mentioning how it could be done.

A lot of questions are rehashed almost yearly anyway. Sure there is
some gold in the archives, so if you can't find what your after.
Search elsewhere.
Didn't say it was a solution to end all solutions.

It prevents purging of messages that I've downloaded if I don't purge
them.

Usually the stuff it hasn't kept hasn't concerned me. Richard asked how
I cope: I answered how I cope.

Yeah, I agree. I always go to
http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search?hl=en
and I never have had any issues finding anything. It's much more
useful to me than Tamarack. On the other-hand, perhaps there are
secret wiz-bang features of Tamarack that I am unaware of?
