I'm curious to know:
1) What tool(s) do you like for writing documentation?
2) What tool(s) do you like for writing context-sensitive help?

We use Help Scribble from JGSoft. It's inexpensive and you get updates
forever as well as free e-mail tech support. The best thing about it is
it doesn't depend on your having MS Word (like RoboHelp does - which
fails when you upgrade the Word version). It does Windows Help and HTML
Help.
It's easy to try for free then buy it after you're satisfied.

I'm using RoboHelp to write HTML Help files only. The HTML portion of
RoboHelp is a standalone application, and does not use Word. If you want to
write the older WinHelp files, then Word is used.
I started with RoboHelp because my company wanted both traditional help
files and Intranet help files. RoboHelp Office will create BOTH the HTML and
Intranet styles (they call it WebHelp) from the same source (but not the
older style WinHelp). This combination works _very well_ for me. I am using
the previous version, RoboHelp X3. There is a newer version X4, but it
didn't add anything to the HTML capabilities.
If you're interested in writing HTML style Help files, I highly recommend
RoboHelp. The Microsoft HTML Help workshop has many problems and lots of things
don't work. RoboHelp has figured out what works well, and limits itself to
that portion.
Of course, the hard part isn't the formatting, it's writing the text. Like
most programmers, I rather hate it. But I am convinced that
"professionalism" is defined in terms of a willingness to document. RoboHelp
has been a big help for me.
