i have a problem here whereby when i add a file via ftp to a server, the
file has only read only option for the user and group. It does not have read
option for the global user (ie dr--r-----). Is there a way to set the read
option to make it (dr--r--r--)

Use the TIdFTP.Site method to send a chmod commmand to the server.
If you are lucky the server will accept the command.
