I am currently upgrading from d5 to d7 and would like to replace ODBC
datasources with ADO... but finding that things are not working out so
well... came across some mention of dbExpress and the dbexpca400
provider/driver for connection to the as400 via client access and wondering
what the differences are and which path I should pursuit... any ideas?

thanx

I have no problems using ADO. I migrated some applications from D5 with ODBC to D6 with ADO and now D7. Just be cautious and don't use TADOTables, just TADOQueries.

Betsy,

We're pretty much in the same situation. Peoples at Borland suggest that we
should move away from their BDE and they seem to suggest dbExpress as a
replacement (see http://community.borland.com/article/0,1410,28688,00.html).
I tried this driver which I downloaded from http://www.sawatzki.de. We
have not tested it thoroughly but it seemed to work OK in combination with a
TSQLConnection, a TSQLQuery, a TDataSetProvider and a TClientDataSet.

On the other hand, IBM is promoting the use of ADO.NET, which we did not
test so far. More on this at
http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/db2/library/techarticle/0309mcgee/0309mcgee.html.

Tell me which path you're going to follow.

Regards,

thank you Michel & Fernando...

Been getting the hang of using the ADO components... really nice... the one
thing that I really like about it that I don't think that you will get out
of dbExpress (could be wrong)... no ODBC datasource to set up, no BDE or
other such files and components to setup and deliver... no extras... deliver
exe and it worked... a snap... I so feared what I'd have to go through to
deliver... I was so pleasantly suprised.
