pre req programs instal fine. But the installation of BDS just doesnt
start. After selecting the options and installation path for bds when i
click instal, nothing happens. In the processes i can see that there is
a msiexec.exe process just sitting there and doing nothing.

Event viewer gives me MSI Installer failure code 11708. and Service
control manager tells that msi installer has failed that. and i gives
the code 7034.

I have been fighting with this problem for weeks and cant find a
solution. I hope you guys can help me out.

Oh and finally one last thing. all these problem are apparently with xp
sp2. on xp i did not have this problem.

some research tells me that this problem is msi installer related. so I
went on installing a new msi installer 3.1. That did not work. so tried
some other msi installer related fixes but there was no gain.

So i am now tired, sick and angry. Is there anyone out there who can
help me.

Hi,

I once had an MSI install "go bad" which was a very odd
and frustrating as the MSI installer seems to cache some
things on the machine. It seemed like it was in a half-way
installed state because the same errors and drives would pop
up right away no matter what I tried (including copying
the CD's to disk etc.). The problem eventually went away after
many uninstall/re-install attempts and reboots(seemed imp.
maybe due to the caching?). Anyway can you try a Remove? Or does
it not show up as installed? In the Install.htm they show how
to run msiexec.exe command line. I think I would try to run
the uninstall they show there (you pass a GUID for BCD2006),
along with logging of course. Can you borrow another machine
to see of the install runs there (in case it is a bad CD)?

well the cds are ok. cause i can use them in presence of xp sp1.

If I want to install BDS, i have to install winxp->install bds-> then do the
upgrading to sp2.

there is no otherway for me.

I did the comman line install and following is the log file that i got. oh
and i removed all the rubbish and placed it with a few dots just to give it
a continuty. after the dots I put the last page of log file which shows a
few lines just before the installer crashes.
