Not sure if this is the right NG for this ... my apologies if not.

Using Delphi 6.02.

I created a frame, then added it to the component palette. Used it in an
app in several forms.

Then I moved all of the files in the app to another folder on my computer,
including the frame file.

Now I'm trying to add that TFrame component to a brand-new form, by dropping
it from the Templates palette onto the form. I get an error that says the
frame file must be added to my project. I click OK on that, and get another
error saying the frame's file cannot be found - at its original location.

I looked at Tamaracka, and in Google and found nothing about how to move a
frame that has been added to the palette.

So I simply deleted the frame from the Templates palette.

I restarted my machine.

Now I'm trying to add the frame back to Delphi by opening the frame unit in
its new location, again to the Templates palette, and Delphi insists that
the frame already exists: I get an error saying 'A component with that name
already exists.'

I realize I could probably give the frame another name, but I'd rather solve
the problem I've caused with Delphi.

What kind of a mess have I gotten myself into, and how can I fix this?

TIA,

Karl Perry

Solved my own problem. Here's what I did, for anyone else in the future:

1. Opened RegEdit.

2. Went to HKCU\Software\Borland\Delphi\6.0\Palette, found the Templates
entry.

3. Deleted its contents (the only thing there was the frame I had deleted).

4. Closed RegEdit.

5. Re-opened Delphi, was able to add the frame back to Templates, then was
able to add it to the new form in my project.

Hoi Karl

Great that you solved your own problem. For next time you post you need to
be aware of the importance of posting on the Borland news server.

I read through that article. The upshot, to me, is that Borland seems to be
saying, "We want to make it as difficult as possible for Borland to continue
to be successful, and in a further effort towards that end we will make it
as difficult as possible for new and existing Borland users to interact with
other Borland users."

I've been using Delphi since v2, took up the task of re-launching the
Pacific Northwest Delphi User Group where I was its president for about five
years before getting out of programming on a day-to-day basis, and I still
shill for Borland every chance I can get. I currently work as a sales
director for a VB6 shop and I hate VB with a passion - I've seen how it
restricts our productivity in a way Delphi never has (unfortunately I have
absolutely no say at this time over the development department).

Borland has had an uphill battle for years against the Microsoft juggernaut,
and it does itself no favors by making it difficult for people to post to
its newsgroups.

Riki, I don't mean this as a slam against you, and I appreciate your
warning - as I appreciate your reply to my post.

Borland, DevCo, wake the hell up.

Borland

Well, in some way you are right.

Borland runs its news servers on its own server, so they can be in control
of updating groups and easier respond to spam posts. Other companies do the
same.

On the Usenet other servers will just pick up whatever they want and do not
really care where it comes from. Including Google Groups which is biggest
contributer to the lost posts (about 90%) on Borland newsgroups.

On the bottom line it is then new Delphi users that loses (and then
indriectly Borland/Devco) because they can not get in contact with the
other regular Delphi users. And it is very difficult to know about this
problem unless you are told directly.

This is why we (Delphi wiki users) decided to start to tell people
directly. Every week we find 20-30 new posters on the Delphi/Kylix groups
that are posted to non Borland servers.

Borland/Devco could solve a big part of this problem if they could get
Google to interact directly with the Borland news server, but this will
require that Google do special news feed handling for that server.

That's fine.

Devco is waking up about other things, but I doubt they are going to change
anything in this area.
