I've had an unopened BDS2006 package for about a year now. Still using
BCB4. That's about to change.

My questions are:

I think if I apply Update 2 right off the bat, I won't have to apply
Update 1. Correct?

If I apply the Hotfix rollup, it applies the hotfixes up to #10.
Correct?

I remember reading a while back that someone or some people apart from
Borland (Codegear) developed some addons or patches or whatever to
significantly speed things up. Which ones are good, should I apply
them, and where can I get them?

I also remember previously reading that it is better not to try to
import a program developed in BCB4 directly, but to build it from
scratch. Is this true? This seems like a lot of work.

Thanks

Hi,

Update 1. Correct?
Correct. It always advisable to install the IDE, run the

IDE, close the IDE. And then install third party add-ons
and patches.

I thought it skipped 2 I remember (maybe that one
was specialized). My personal recommendation is to
not apply hotfixes right away (unlike Update 2 which
I think should be applied right away). I recommend
running the IDE for awhile first.

I suggest creating a new project that is very similar
to (and even uses the same name as) the project from
BCB4. Then add all source (with multi-select in the
Add to Project dialog that should not be hard. Then
do a compare of the two projects. Then create a new
project and new source and note any differences.
e.g. the USEFILE macros no longer show up in the
project source. Check for things like #pragma
package(smart_init). I think it was the same in
BCB4 that is several versions ago.

Thanks for the tips Craig. If I could just get the link to the Update 2
to work, I would be off to the races. Sent an email to Codegear, but
haven't heard anything back yet.

Did you ever get a response to your e-mail? Did you create a support case?
If you still need assistance, let me know.

All is okay now. Thanks for checking.
