|
|
I am about to order the D2007 Pro Upgrade. My current version is D5 Pro but
in the days that I bought it (2000?) there was no online registration.
1) Am therefore worried how the D2007 Pro installation for the upgrade will
take place - does it require on-line access and if so how will it verify
that I have a bona fide copy of D5 Pro to begin with.
2) Is it just OK to have D5 Pro installed on the target machine and will the
D2007 upgrade just look for this for verification?
3) I'm actually about to put a new HD in my PC anyway. Do I need to install
D5 to run the D2007 upgrade? (It's not too much of a hassle to do this but
if it's not necessary then why bloat the the registry anyway - I'm taking
the opportunity to put in a new HD as my current one needs reformatting in
the first instance).

The Delphi 2007 Upgrade install doesn't check for a previous install.
getting the upgrade price is more of an honor system between you,
CodeGear, and your reseller.
Delphi 2007 will want to register itself with your CDN* account within a
few days, if not immediately. So yes, your computer will need on-line
access at some point.
*CDN = CodeGear Developer Network, http://dn.codegear.com

Thanks for the clarification Brion,
I have some legacy apps/components that are not worth updating to D2007 from
D5.
Can one still run D5 concurrently with D2007?
No problem in registering D2007 on the internet my problem was that D5
wasn't at the time it was purchased (and I don't think it was a necessity at
that time either).

Yes. Technically there is no problem and the upgrade license permits it. This is the typical
situation for upgraders. |

Thanks Ivan,
That's cool! Was hoping that this was the case. A lot of *upgrades*
overwrite the existing program - which is why I asked.
