Hello,

i have a strange problem with BDS2006 pro german on WinXP pro after
having uninstalled a BDS2005 pro german that was installed on the same
machine.

Every time now i open a Win32 VCL (did not test something else than
Win32 VCL) project or create a new one in BDS2006, after clicking the
RUN button or pressing F9, BDS2006 is launching the Microsoft installer
doing the following sequence of actions:

1. Showing MSI dialog "Preparing installation"
2. Showing MSI dialog "Collecting information with progress bar running
upwards
3. After approx. 25% of progress an error dialog is popping up , title
"Borland Developer Studio 2006", error text: "Internal error
2920.install.htm" (ok. - this is originally in german but i hope this
fits the sense in english)
4. When confirming the error message, the MSI does something like an
"undo process", progress bar running backwards and quitting the
installer. After that, the project launches as usual in BDS2006 and i
can debug it and so on, also when i change the project to work on in BDS.

The interesting thing on it is that this "Installation task" is trying
to install something only when i run a project in BDS the first time.
Every time i run the project after having processed this "failing
installation" once BDS is running, it does not appear anymore until i
close BDS and open it the next time to run a project via F9 or the Run
button.

Additional remark: Sometimes this "failing installation task" tries to
process the task up to 3 times in a sequence; means first time failed
with error 2920, it quits the installation procedure and then starts it
newly. After the third time the installation process failed, the
projects launches then in BDS without problems as mentioned above already.

Something about the installation history:

The machine has had 3 different Delphi IDEs installed in the follwing
installation sequence:
1. Delphi 5 pro german, update 3
2. BDS 2005 pro german, update 2
3. BDS 2006 pro german, update 2, latest hotfixes applied

System worked fine!

Yesterday BDS 2005 pro has been uninstalled using the WinXP - Control
center (Systemsteuerung) - Add or remove Programs : BDS 2005 pro
uninstall. Yepp - and from that time on, the trouble is there (seems the
BDS2005 uninstall did something more than it should do...).

BTW: Trying to repair the installation via the Add remove programs ->
BDS 2006 pro -> Repair failed. The installation fired some messages that
it was unable to find some resources and processed the an undo run of
the installer to return to the level it has had on launching the repair
task.

Does somebody have an idea what the reason could be for that strange
BDS2006 behavior?

Best regards,

H. Hoffmann

Hello Liz,

not directly the admin account but an user with administration rights
for that machine.

Hello Liz,

so far i can see no, there is none. Is there a chance to figure out what
the BDS installer wants to do there (some kind of debug tool)?

BTW: I used that account some month ago to install the BDS2006 without
having trouble with it.

Best Regards and happy Easter,

Oh, thank you. I've played around with my date and time because of
programming a time synchronisation - tool and forgot to reset the old
settings. Should be fixed now :-)

Hallo,

Althought I'm also from Germany I will answer in English since this is an
english newsgroup :-)

I had a similar problem after applying a hot fix for Turbo Delphi
Professional. The solution was to copy the content of the "install" folder
from the CD to the hard disc drive. When the dialog occours where you have
to specify the source I just selected the folder on the hdd and it worked
perfectly. I also wasn't able to select the folder on the cd. In that case
the "repair"-process aborted so I think this would be worth a try!!!!

Good luck and "Frohe Ostern" :-)

Michael

Hello Michael,

i think this is already done because i have had used this way (copy
BDS2006 installation CDs to local disc) once i have installed it. For
wahtever reason i had a lot of trouble doing it via the CDs directly and
that still with D8. So i decided to copy the CDs to the local disc
before going to install BDS2006 from there.

The location of the installation files on the local disc never changed
so BDS should be able to locate it (have checked the Borland installer
registry entries and found that the location still fits "LastUsedSource
= n;1;E:\Delphi 2006 Setup CD\install\".

Best Regards and also "Frohe Ostern",

Hello Liz,

just to mention it:

I also tried to process the BDS installation task to run without having
activated the local firewall and the local virus scanner but without
success. It also fails with "local error 2920. Install.htm".

No idea what the error is though, someone from codegear would.

Hello Liz, hello Michael,

i think it's a problem within the installation. After having executed
the MSI package from the command line with log file enabled, chosing
"Repair" within the setup GUI, the following error position was
identified within the log (page 1382 ! of around 1780 - wow):

Do you have Idwinsock2.hpp? Can you remove it, let it put it back?

Hello Liz,

yes it is installed twice (indy 9 and 10):

C:\Programme\Borland\BDS\4.0\include\Indy10
C:\Programme\Borland\BDS\4.0\include\Indy9

Currently i would like to avoid any action making the BDS installation
possibly totally corrupted ;-)

It is "STILL" working - with doing that poor installation tasks - but it
is working.

Best Regards,

H. Hoffmann
