|
|
Hi all,
For the records:
Had D2007 Trial (Enterprise) installed. Received my new D2007 disk today
after 2 weeks wait. Goody!
Decided to uninstall D2007 Trial as I wanted to use a different install
directory (because of the penchance of some 3rd party components to dislike
long path lengths like C:\Program Files\Code Gear\Delphi2007\Third Party
Components\
Ran the D2007 Pro up to the 'Enter Serial Number' only to get 'Invalid
Serial number'. Re-checked serial number, hit next - same message. Re-typed
serial number a number of times. Same problem.
Read the install notes and decided to re-install the D2007 trial from the
Net with the original trial password. Trial worked OK.
Re-ran the D2007 Disk and chose 'upgrade'. Installation continued right
through to registration which contained, lo and behold, the new (Licensed)
serial number (even though claimed to be 'invalid' on the first attempts -
Delphi seems to keep a record of it probalby in the registry and then fills
it in when the install actually succeeds).
Now working OK (at least so far).
Moral of the story seems to be that you can't uninstall the D2007 trial
before trying to install the licensed version.
Hope this will save somone some hours of frustration.
Will post in Delphi bugs when I get the time, right now I need some R&R.
Regards, |

Hi Liz,
How does one do this? Assume you are referring to the license manager in
D2007 itself (which I had uninstalled) or is there another way?
According to the D2007 Pro license manager I still have the Enerprise
edition installed as well. Haven't checked out the veracity of this yet
though (too tired last night to see what components were in the pallet).
Looked for a method to delete the Enterprise license but doesn't seem to be
one.

| Quote: | Yes, the license manager in the bin directory called licensemanager.exe
(comes with other borland/codegear products too) you should be able to
delete it there.
Failing that, under your "All Users" before you install make sure you
remove the codegear directory and the {whatever} directory, as well as
c:\program files\codegear\....

Hi Liz,
Well, had a look and the License\Delete is grayed for the Enterprise Trial
so can't delete by this route.
Right now it's working so guess better to leave sleeping dogs lie....
Still some days remaining on the trial so maybe it'll allow me to remove
once the trial period is up in 4 days(?)
Will wait and see!

Hi Liz,
Well yes, when I originally went to the original installation directory and
deleted the residuals that were left after the uninstall. Didn't help, kept
getting the 'Invalid Serial Number'.
The 'readme' didn't cover any problems of this instance but did mention that
one should use the 'Upgrade' selection when installing after the trial
version.
So, reinstalled the trail and then installed D2007 Pro. But now have the
problem that the Ent trial (enterprise - not to be confussed with Lord of
the Rings woodland Ents..) is still 'registered' and can't seem to get rid
of it.
Ultimately the problem is that software manufacturers have to go to
extraordinary lengths to stop pirates ripping off their software which
results in over-elaborate protection methods - this and MS Windows
bloatware. Frequently miss the days of DOS.
Wish I was a pigeon and they statues...

Im guessing because no one had it before release of the trial, which
was after the initial product, I guess it shows it needs more testing,
and Im sure if you mailed Nick and told him (or he reads this and
lurks) he'd make a note.

As I said, if you delete c:\documents and settings\all
users\application data\codegear, and any remnents of c:\program
files\codegear, and any reg settings of HKLM\Software\Borland\Bds\5.0
and HKCU\Software\Borland\bds\5.0 you should have deffinately wiped it.
