Anyone want to recommend a blogging product for a windows 2003 server? I'd
like to add it so I can post and others can respond to my posts.

Thank you in advance.

If you have Delphi 2005 Enterprise or later, you can consider using my
ECO Weblog application, described in detail in the articles at
http://www.drbob42.com/eco (and in action at http://www.drbob42.com/blog
or at my own server http://www.bobswart.nl/blog).

No offense to Bob (I have tremendous respect for all you've contributed
to the Delphi community), but I wouldn't recommend going that route.

In my experience blogging, several times I've started off with either
home-grown products (hey... *I* can create *that*) or fringe products
that had a cool feature set. And I've never been pleased in the long
run with either of those solutions.

Here's why...

I usually have a business reason why I am writing my blog (I currently
maintain 6 blogs in various industries). Whether it's traffic
generation, keeping users informed and up-to-date or something more
esoteric, I always in the end wish I had used a more popular (read: more
widely supported) platform to take advantage of the latest features that
allow me to either communicate more effectively or distribute more
easily to a new audience. It's way more than just RSS/atom support and
a place to share my thoughts.

Now I use nothing but WordPress on my sites and my client's sites. It's
stupid-easy to setup, rock-solid, and totally "un-fancy" (which is why I
initially didn't use it).

But here's the real clincher for me... the third party support and
community is phenomenal! From templates to plugins to addons, if it's
out there you can find it for WordPress.

Now, I don't know what you want to do with your blog, but if you are
actually using it for business purposes or traffic generation you'll
want to make sure that you are using something that will quickly support
whatever the hot next "web 2.0" community is. From digg, to stumble
upon, to Reddit, to whatever... I want it to be easy for people to find
me and refer me.

And that means I always use what I consider to be the "de-facto"
standard... WordPress. There's just not a lot of point in straying too
far from something that works.

Matt Harward
