Is there any movement on getting the newest version of Indy ready for use
in C++Builder? It's been a *long* time now. Is it really that difficult to
make the new Indy work in C++Builder? Or is the holdup more related to a
lack of manpower?

Not lately.

Yes. As I've said numerous times before, I am the only person who works on
C++ support, but I do not have a lot of time lately to work on it. Besides
that, I did already write some installation files for myself that worked,
but that was before I then started making a lot of changes to my local copy
of Indy 10 for other things. I do not have a compilable version of Indy 10
right now to test with. And I have not gotten around to downloading the
official snapshot to test with.

IIRC, Gambit has said that lack of manpower was a significant factor,
but there were other issues as well.

Since Borland (or, now, DevCo) is pretty much "officially" using Indy as
their networking component suite, is it possible to request that they
lend a hand on C++Builder support?

Because everyone else is either Delphi or C#. In fact, being C++ is
primarily what got me onto the Indy team in the first place. If there are
other C++ members on the team, they don't step forward very much.

Hi Remy,
How many people work on the Indy project overall, and is there a reason why
you are the only one that does the C++ support?

Have just got back into Borland's NGs. This Indy 10 problem in BCB (6Pro in
my case) is still with us after more than a year. I note from the replies
in this thread and those in the 21aug by Vlad that Remy is the only person
working in this area. This prompts me to ask whether, or not, any of us can
help, and if so, how?
My experience is systems and programming, including comms, in different
flavours over some 40 years. I am retired and really quite committed
writing web support software using my C++ SDK, but if there were a small
part in a coordinated plan I could do, I would try to find the time. Of
course there are real problems in organising a division of support for an
integrated project, but _if_ we _could_ advance Indy 10 to a working
release, then a lot of people would be really pleased - me for one!
Best regards, and thanks to Remy for all the support he gives.
Peter Evans.

Indy is open source. Anyone can contribute to it. The two biggest problem
areas are:
1) lack of suitable installation support for C++. At one time, I was able
to adapt the install scripts from Indy 9 to work with Indy 10. But I never
got the chance to release them. I have since moved on to making a ton of
other (unrelated) architectural changes to Indy 10 to address other issues,
so I have yet to get back to a compilable state again. I want to try
compiling the current snapshot as-is, without all of my changes in place,
but don't have much time to get around to it lately.
2) making sure all of the interfaces work in C++. For example, I just
recently had to change the interface design for the TIdHash classes slightly
because they were using Delphi features that don't work in C++.
Specifically, they were returning arrays as their return values, which is
something the C++ compiler will not allow, so the Delphi compiler produces
the wrong function signatures when generating the C++ header files for the
classes.

Thanks, Remy for that explanation. Hmm! Not so obvious, as could be
expected, of course.
Have just bought BDS2006 upgd for BCB6, (Łouch! - personal purchase). Is
there a way of having this and BCB6 installed on the same PC? Could I
install BCB on one drive and BDS on another, so keeping the Borland
directories apart? (I want to continue to service my BCB6 - NM internet
products _and_ start to get to grips with Indy in BDS.)
Sorry, yet another and possibly daft, question but can I have _both_ Indy9
and Indy10 on the same PC using BDS? (Different drives again?) I would
like to follow up your hint about looking at the Indy10 components(that
interest me) - comparing them with those in Indy 9 to find out how things
work. (I haven't used Indy at all yet!)
Best regards,
Peter Evans.

Yes. Each version has always installed itself to a different folder by
default.

Borland already separates its directories by default.

It is technically possible, but I do not have those details onhand, though I
would not recommend it in general anyway, just to avoid conflicts.
