Hi,

Is there going to be a BETA version of BDS with BCB
*free to download* like Microsoft did with VS.NET 2005?

Borland haven't done a PUBLIC beta of their major products yet, so I
doubt that. Usually, there is a trial version, some time after the
release of the commmercial product.

Yes... I saw the word PUBLIC in your answer, so I'm
interested who are the chosen once if it's not impolite
to ask? Only TeamB or somebody else can participate?

You'll have to ask Borland.

It is probably safe to assume they have beta-testers. TeamB is a group of
approx. 30 people (didn't count, just my guess), and only a few of them
use C++, so one can assume there must be a few more testers than just
TeamB members.

I don't know how Borland select beta testers, but I believe they look
for a good variety of users who will (hopefully) stress the entire
product between them.

If you think you will make a good beta tester, I recommend writing an
email to Developer Relations, John Kaster or Anders Olsen would
probably be best, explaining exactly why you would make a good tester.
John has certainly encouraged interested testers do this in the past,
so I presume it works <g> Or rather, at least some testers will be
accepted this way.

I believe 'early access' to products is also one of the advantages of
the Borland Technical Parter program, although as an in-house developer
I don't qualify for the program so don't know much more about it.

Tim del Chiaro asked for people who might want be beta-testers to
contact him a while a go in this same newsgroup.

Ok, thanks.

In fact, I myself don't think I can offer too much to Borland
in that (although I had some experience in beta testing with
some other products). I beleave that Borland already has it's
'winning' team for BETA testing.

Recently, I have written an article in the most popular PC
magazine in my country about the announcement of new
BCB within Delphi (based on Live-Chat and on the videos
that were published in BDN), so I just wanted to see
something 'palpably' for my next text, because there were
already some articles about MS VS2005 BETA.

My pleasure. That was a while ago.

Beta-testers usually are bound by an NDA, so don't get your hopes up on
that one.

I assumed that.

AFAIK, Microsoft sent VS.NET 2005 to everyone who
wanted it...

In that case I would definitely contact somone on Developer Relations
and see if there is anything further they can tell you. Maybe you can
get an exclusive and some more information for the rest of us ;?)

More than that, they gave it as a free download on the MS site. Provided
you accepted their licence though.
