http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/muglia_winserver.asp

64bits talk starts half-way through the article. Highlights:

- .NET is qualified as "our application development platform",
not next generation OS layer or whatever fundamental gizmo you
can't do without
- MS assume it won't make sense to ship 32bits servers anymore
- MS quite openly admits that Intel's got trampled on the 64bits issue,
the diplomatic AMD DID good work and we're sure Intel WILL do
good work is a quite funny bit (hear Dell, hear)
- SQL Server 2005 will have NATIVE 64bits
- already 10,000 drivers converted to 64bits
- they're "pretty bullish about [the industry] turning over pretty
rapidly [to 64bits]"

So where is Borland native 64bits strategy for Delphi?

How about music from Pulp Fiction, that plays
after Butch says: "Zed's dead, baby, Zed's dead..."

Indeed, and with every right to believe so-- AMD is going to be
shipping nothing BUT Athlon 64's shortly, and Intel will likely follow
suit (or rather, is following suit). Whether you want it in a new PC
or not, you'll be spoon-fed 64-bit compatibility.

FWIW, voting on an unopened report is useless...

Well, FWIW, Danny mentioned that they're booked for the next 3 years.

That means, there won't be any 64-bit compilers coming from Borland
within the next 3 years.

I doubt that he said specifically that there wouldn't be. I expect it
would be more along the lines of "the current schedule for the next 3
years doesn't allow for it".

Winds change, fashions change, schedules change.

Unless 64-bit is already booked...

Actually I sincerely doubt that. If it was useless, QC wouldn't allow
it. No, what's useless is Borland leaving the report unopened despite
the huge interest in it. It does, afterall, have the most votes of any
report in QC for any project.

Razz Was posting from Mozilla Thunderbird on another PC and hadn't
finished configuring it. I'll probably install XanaNews on there since
I'm more used to it's UI. =)

Sorry for the inconvenience. Wink report. =)

Yes, but he also said some things are in the three-year plan that he
can't yet comment on.

Just because you haven't heard about it doesn't necessarily mean Borland
isn't looking into it.
