I guess that we will get support for .net 2.0 before we gets Vista ;-)

"Windows, which is found in about 90 percent of all computer desktops,
is one of Microsoft's biggest cash cows"

So does anyone who participated in the Borland "cash cow" discussion
and commented that the term "cash cow" was a bad thing want to rethink
that.

There is a big difference between taking care of your cash cow and
milking it dry. Also, I don't agree with that statement. The cash
cow in MS is Office. Office 12 is the first release in years to get
any major updates to is, and that is all because of Open Office.

Delphi didn't need major updates until VS 2003 got released because
it was so much better. Unfortunately, Borland didn't do anything
to keep ahead of MS in the IDE race with they had too and now they
are in a pickle. I am hoping the new company, without the 200 KG
weight of the ALM group, will thrive again.

If management would have done it right, Delphi could have been a
very healthy cow giving off twice the milk it is now giving ample
money to fund both division properly. Very short sited IMO.

Why? At least Microsoft uses a lot of the "cash cow" cash to make major
improvments to each generational release of Windows.

The same cannot be said of Borland.

Just my 2 cows! Wink

I still love the way the dev team appeared to mock the executives' use
of "cash cow" by calling the two releases DeXter and Highlander. Are
these the two cows you're referring to!? Wink (just kidding)

Of course, I've never heard the real reasons behind Dexter and
Highlander but it seems too coincidental....

Cheers,
Kevin.

I'm not sure about Highlander, but DeXter is *really* easy to figure out.

Thanks... and while this may say "Highland" and not "Highlander" there
are plenty of other links where they refer to them as "Highlander" cows
e.g.:

http://www.cruachan.com.au/html/body_scotch.htm

Cheers,
Kevin.

Really? The only thing that I recognize in it is that the X represents
the version 10. Other than that, what is the meaning of Dexter itself-
why didn't they pick Xena, Xylophone, or Sox (just a few OTTOMH). :-)

Cheers,
Kevin.

That's really humerous.

Delphi has a new mascot. 8:-)

By purposely picking two obscure breeds, they could
have hidden the tweak from the PHB.
I wonder if the Delphi team knew about the link or if
it was accidental.

None of them started with D, for Delphi.

Good point. However, that still doesn't quite seem sufficient to
explain why it is Dexter specifically.

Yep. Put BDS 2006 alongside Delphi 1 and/or Turbo Pascal For Windows
and you would be hard pushed to tell them apart.

No, wait, hang on....

;D

Office sells very well for Macintosh. I wouldn't be surprised if
