Hi, Folks!

I am having a battle here, in my company, to decide with the development
team what is the best way to implement multi tier model to our applications,
and I am asking here, on Borland NewsGroups, to get some light about this
question.

We are thinking about speed, price, development facilities, deployment
facilities, and support on Brazil (the country where I am). There is a lot
of companies hwo represent Borland here, so support is easy to get. AstaTech
has no office here. About development facilities, there is a lot of Midas
documentation on the internet, books as well. But I can find any material
about Asta outside AstaTech website. Deployment facilites, I don't know
nothing about Midas deployment, but Asta is quite simple to do, since I
should deploy the server executable module + database access libraries, and
client executable module.

Speed, this is the question... Asta has some properties to implement
compression on data sended from server app to client app, which give to the
user a great performance. So, even using an dial-up internet connection,
Asta work great. Midas? There is no document (even on the Delphi CD or
internet) talking about data compression to improve speed to the system. So,
I presume that there is no compression using Midas. Obvious, We are not
trying to implement an image processing software working via a 14.4 Kbps
connection, but I presume that this "difference (compression x
no-compression)" can mean something.

So, I would ask to all newsgroup users hwo has some experience with both
tools, tell me something about differences, speed, and other questions. I
need to decide what We will use in the future, but looking to Asta and
Midas, I presume Midas is the best choice, but I am note sure that.

Thanks a lot, any comments will be helpful.

Giovani Marinho

PS. Sorry by my poor english. Is not my native language...
