My shareit.com purchase of $2171
was just approved by management.

While waiting for delivery I'm wondering
could I make better selection for that
budget?

Conditions:
1. Only stuff avaliable from shareit.com is considered.
2. I use Delphi 7 Arhitect.
3. I have Oracle 8, SQL Server 2000, Firebird 1.5 in production
4. I don't use any commercial 3rd party components (until now Smile
5. Only 3rd party Commercial tools I used so far
was Help & Manual from http://www.ec-software.com/
and GWD text Editor from http://www.gwdsoft.com/
and Sleuth QA Suite and Memory Sleuth from defunct TP

So, here is my list: (prices in euros)

ModelMaker Tools Code Explorer 99
ModelMaker Tools UML Explorer 99
ModelMaker Tools Str Diff Viewer 29

Peganza Pascal Analyzer 121

Upscene DB WorkBench - All modules 529

Two Desk Castalia Universal 150

TMS Component Pack Pro 145
TMS Skin Factory 50
TMS Plugin Framework 75
Adrian Galero FlexCel 75

wpCubed wPDF standard 215

Mathias Rauen madCollection 131

Total purchase 1718

So, what did I miss?

Do you need Unicode and/or XP-Theming unter 95/98-2003:

Use ElPack (http://www.lmdtools.com/products/lmdelpack/).
and you can save some TMS-Packages.

In my tools list, I only mentioned

coding aids and delphi specific stuff.

Beyond Compare (http://www.scootersoftware.com/)
Beyond Compare was considered,

and it is so cheap ($30) so I
would take it, only if it was
purchaseable on shareit.com.

VMWare Workstation (http://www.vmware.com)

VMWare Workstation is probably
THE most useful tool of all I use
in development & testing.
It is also indispensible for
browsing dark side of the web.

for source control I use
subversion with tortoise.

for building, final builder
was considered, but not
avaliable on shareit.
Maybe it will be purchased
separately in september, but
I have no idea.

I'm not sure what your question is, but maybe you want suggestions for what
other components to buy?

There is a newsgroup to discuss third party components, but anyway, I
suggest

* If you don't have them already, MadExcept or EurekaLog
* Since you have a .de email address, maybe a localization tool (eg Korzh
Localiser)
* Maybe some icons, like the Glyphx ones

It's really hard to guess what components you might be interested in without
knowing what kind of work you do, so I'll stop there . . .

Except that a.b@c.de isn't a real email address. "c.de" is not a valid
domain name as they have to have at least two characters before the
dot.

True. I didn't look closely.

ok, well going on his name then! <g>

Or just scratch this suggestion from the list.

Yes, Thanks. I'll repost better formed query there.

Well, madCollection is on my list. And, madExcept
is part of that collection. I'm glad that I helped
Mathias with 130 euros. Im sorry that Vladimr Kladov,
Colin Wilson, Marcel Van Brakel, Eric Grange and some
others were not on accessible on shareit.com.

I thought that it is obvious for humans
(but hopefully not so for robots Smile
that a.b@c.de is dummy mail adress.

I see in your list some things I have worked with. TMS Component Pack
Pro is an excellent value. Thumbs up! I always love the ModelMaker stuff.

Last time I used DB Workbench was went it went commercial. I have used
many database tools, but I haven't found a database tool _so polished_
and _with such attention to detail_ at IB Expert. It is an outstanding
product. <sigh> But it's Interbase/Firebird only. I guess that's what
makes it so good. It's not one of these "jack of all trades; master of
none" tools. I would buy DB Workbench /and/ IB Expert and use IB Expert
for all Firebird work.

Based on what I tried of the EMS products, I was not impressed. They
have shared roots with IB Expert, but IB Expert is far ahead in usability.

If you are doing Firebird work, you might want to look at some
commercial database drivers for dbExpress or ADO if doing Win32 or
VCL.NET development.

Thanks for answering.

As for IBExpert, it's IB/FB only
attribute is what takes it out of
considereation.

I am very glad to hear
TMS is good stuff.

It is what started whole purchase,
since I wanted something that
adds features to pure Borland
visual components, but keeps
compatibility. If it will work as
expected, I it probably best deal.
