|

There is an article where Ballmer says they need to push .NET more
because the government wants it so bad.
The article is at:

If interoperability is the big issue for some, then just stick with
Java. For Winew performance go with Delphi32.

Did you catch the link I posted below -

Microsoft is facing increasing pressure from alternative products as state
and federal governments move to level the playing field between proprietary
and open-source software.
Of course MS want to push .net for government, as they are rapidly losing
ground there to open source initiatives.
Also many large companies (eg Telstra in Australia) are pursuing open
source.

The IT Director at Telstra who was pursuing open source left last year.

Well, according to yesterday's Financial Review, they are still pursuing it.
MS are arranging talks with Telstra (on this visit) to try to change their
mind . . . one of their major projects was internet TV (IIRC), or something
along those lines, that Telstra wasn't terribly interested in.

This is the article I quoted in a post yesterday, but the article has |
been changed. Yesterday it said:
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer confessed the software giant's .NET strategy
has come to a standstill, says he's accepted SQL Server's shortcomings,
and vowed to keep fighting search giant Google.
Today it says:
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer confessed the software giant's .NET
interoperability efforts with IBM and Sun have slowed, says he's
accepted SQL Server's shortcomings, and vowed to keep fighting search
giant Google.

Phil S.

The slowdown may also be related to the DCMA stuff MS
wants to have in Longhorn at all cost. Who wants this
DCMA ? None I know.
