While I appreciate the 'notice', the only apparently relevant
information is that the new BCB will be out 'later this year' (minor
points being essentially that it will be Win32 with no new 'stuff' other
than being hosted in the Delphi 2005 IDE, all of which has already been
discussed).

You don't think you could have simply said that, rather than have me
take several minutes out of my day to download and listen to it?

P.S. I find it interesting that David I. is able to give this interview
stating a timeframe, yet there is no posted announcement of timeframe,
even as we speak, on the Borland forums.

Hi David,

Please refer to the content page (with more explanation about where and
then the interview was taken), and not just the media file, thanks.

Or go to the main page, and click on the interview link.

David I did say that the latest VCL would be available to C++ users. Delphi
has enjoyed several years of VCL updates since the last version of BCB was
released.

Yes, and this has been the major focus of every single statement Borland
has made -- so this is not new information.

I reiterate, the ONLY new information (if you can call it that) is that
it will be released "later this year".

Yes, but everyone already assumes that. It would take more work to use an old VCL
with C++ in the same IDE that is built with the new VCL.

I wonder if they will make any C++ specific improvements such as better C++ standards
support, compiler and linker bug fixes, CodeGuard bug fixes, better project
management, or better debugger support for templates.

I have low expectations. But I'd really like to be surprised in a positive way.

He did not actually say that it would be released at that time, only that
their goal is then.

I give up.

Several responses come to mind, but the best, I guess, is...

"...this conversation can serve purpose anymore. Goodbye."

I was under the impression that the next version would use
Dinkumware instead of STLPort. Is this just wishful
thinking?

I believe that was mentioned in the online chat with Eli Boling a few
months back, and is generally regarded as Very Good News <g>

But fortunately, since we don't know what we're wating for,
it's not a big deal <g> Maybe Borland should consider renaming
themselves to Sirius Cybernetics Corporation.

Seriously, are they planning to announce any details before release?
They haven't typically listed fixes/enhancements with previous releases
AFAICT.

Wouldn't it be nice if Borland announced the following things would
happen in the new release:

Improved IDE:
- Code Insight actually works (without slowing down IDE development)
- Precompiled headers are no longer necessary (dramatically improved
compile time)

(Two of my pet peaves; and about the only two things I like in MSVS more
than in Borland)

Perhaps we can give them a list?

The good thing about Borland's code insight is that it is actually doing the
code insight through the compiler and so it actually changes as code before
it changes. So it is very accurate as opposed to VS which isn't accurate (or
so I'm told - it may be better now). Pre-compiled headers are also used by
VS but they call it something else. I had a colleague using VS whose compile
time went from 10's of minutes to less than a minute using precompiled
headers in VS 6. The more headers you include, the slower the compiler
becomes and VCL includes a lot of headers.
