|

I was just reading this article:
http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/newcoke.asp
on snopes.com. The article explains all about the debacle of New Coke and
attempts to explain why it happened etc.
I couldn't help but think while reading it how many similarities there are
to Borland and BCBX. The main one being:
"The New Coke project had been kept secret for years; this secrecy wouldn't
have been possible if company personnel had been questioning test subjects
on how they'd feel about the new cola if it were to replace the old one."
(as opposed to simply whether or not they liked the taste of a new product).
One of the few things we've heard from Borland about BCBX is that based on
the feedback they received from surveys etc, BCBX was something that people
wanted. There has been quite a few people that have started using the
product (myself included) so it appears that people did actually want the
product. One thing I *definitely* don't remember was ever being asked not
only would I like a product like BCBX, but would I like it if it replaced
BCB. I probably would have said no.
Anyway, I know its a tangent but I just found it interesting. Have a read of
the article and you'll probably see similarities too .

The one difference between Coke and Borland is in the marketing, otherwise
that's an interesting comparison.
I was one of the few that liked new Coke as well as the classic Coke. But if
I had to choose, I'd always choose the original.
Almost the same can be said with CBX and BCB. Like 'em both (conceptually),
but right now if I had to choose I'd pick the original. That might be all
different once Borland perfects the CBX formula (and includes a VCL
bridge) -- but I suppose they could always come out with a BCB7 (original)
and probably make out alright again.
BTW - did you ever notice Coke was never quite the same once they brought it
back -- something happened when the replaced the sugar with corn syrup.

Hi!

Borland decided to develope Kylix based on survays. And kylix was a flop.
Its all about how you put the words and who interprets them. I think that
Kylix and possibly BCBX are a very expensive way of learning how
to put together a survay....
