Held Guest Posted: Thu Oct 23, 2003 8:45 am    Post subject: New compiler Has anyone gotten the Enterprise trial CD and tried out the new compiler? P.J. Plauger says that Borland has licensed technology from EDG and Dinkumware, so I assume that means it should be pretty good. Also, the investment in a pure C++ front-end would explain why they are so eager to go with a pure C++ GUI framework. I guess that means bye-bye VCL. Or maybe in hindsight, Borland engineers are hacking away at the EDG front-end to see if they can make it recognize Borland extensions. But that seems pretty unlikely. I said something to the effect that the new EDG front-end would imply the death of the VCL, hence, the new pure C++ GUI framework; and P.J. said that I should wait for Borland's announcements and "keep an open mind". My further guess is that Borland will eventually include a VCL designer with BCBX. The question in my mind is when will these things happen? Some time next year probably. David B.
