|
|
I just got a new machine and have installed Borland Builder 6. The VCL icons are not showing. It seems to me in the past you had to run the install a second time and install the icons for a specific user. However, that option does not seem to be available. Can anyone tell me how to make the icons appear? |

BCB does need to be installed for individual users. You can install the IDE
itself using an admin account, and then do a Registry-only install under
each user account.

Thanks, that is indeed how I remember it - but I'm not seeing
how to do it. I have install rights and in fact I'm told I have
admin rights. I was able to install Visual Studio and all my
other tools, but when I install Builder I get the problem
outlined in my original post.
Perhaps I need to uninstall, get the actual admin to install and
then install again? And then an option will appear during the
install - when and where - to do a registry install?

When you run the BCB installer again, there should be a "Registry-only"
checkbox available along the way so that it doesn't try to install the
actual files.

Remy,
Thanks for the quick responses and you are confirming what I recall - but I
just am not seeing that checkbox. I just ran through it again to be sure.
I'm not seeing it. I guess I'll have to do as I said and uninstall and have
the real admin install and then try again.

As it turns out, I supposedly have full admin Privileges. I don't
know why the icons did not show. However, it did fix itself when
we uninstalled it, logged in as the true admin and installed it.
My IT guy swears that my Privileges are no different from the
admin's, but clearly something is different.
This is just a follow-up for those who have experienced the same
thing and wanted to know the results. |
