Any software-based protection scheme can be cracked by someone sufficiently
determined and skilled. They often do it just for the sheer challenge.
If you software is really valuable, then you need hardware protection. |

I tried the trial version of protects shareware from
http://www.protectshareware.com/. When I execute the program and enter the
Registration number for my file abc.exe, the registration icon did not get
hide and still displays 'Registration'? Full version is $20. Did anybody
used above software?
Also I tried the demo version of Armadillo; it is good program but it is too
expensive ($300): http://siliconrealms.com/index.shtml
Please let me know your idea. |

SoftwarePassport (Armadillo) has a trick to get it cheaper, though. If
you sign up with RegNow (or probably any of the Digital River
distribution sites) you can get a free version of SoftwarePassport.
Signing up with RegNow costs $19.95, but then you get SoftwarePassport
with it. AFAICS, you can distribute your protected software outside of
the Digital River network, so you are not bound to them. That's why I
posted the link in my first post to the signup page for RegNow.
In case you missed it, here it is again: http://tinyurl.com/yvm4q8
You sign up for $19,95 and get access to SoftwarePassport for free (both
RegNow and SoftwarePassport are owned by Digital River). It seems likes
a pretty good deal to me :)

I think they may have changed it
http://www.regnow.com/software_publisher2.html says
Step 1: Download SoftwarePassport at www.digitalriver.com
Digital River will provide a license if desired, or you may directly
purchase a license through the website. Contact
drnetwork (AT) digitalriver (DOT) com for a free license. *This license only works
with Digital River license server.*

As I understand, the SoftwarePassport is a custom build of Armadillo which |
work only with RegNow. You can't use this license with another registrars.

We are almost ready to release and are leaning towards this route
although the demo version will not be time limited, just a slimmed down
version. Online activation seems to be a "no-no" for a lot of people
so we will not be using it. A simple registration system which will be
enough to sort out the casual guys and numerous updates throughout the
year.
