hi, i downloaded and tried to install the free borland compiler. I got an error saying that I did not have enough hard drive space on my c: drive to install. However, I have 60GB available. I tried rebooting. I am running Windows XP. Any ideas? thanks

Do you have admin rights?
I believe if the disk is "write protected" it looks to the installer
as if there's no room.

p.s. please turn on word wrapping.

-I must have admin rights, I am in the default user account (I have no login screen), and I install stuff I need all the time. How can I check if my disk is write protected, and is there any way it could go from unprotected to protected without my explicit consent? The answer to that question seems to me to be NO, so there is no way the disk could be write protected since I have never told it to be.

ps-how do i 'turn on' word wrap?

also, if i have the compiler installed on another computer
can i just copy the 'c:borland' folder to my own and update
my path and run it that way? Does the installation perform
some behind-the-scenes changes that I am not aware of? This
sounds like a viable aternative since I have tried many different solutions, but it always says I need to free up 50.79 MB in order to install. Thanks

ps-i figured out the word wrap..... sorry about that.... =)

Well, I ran chkdsk before my latest boot and it corrected the problem somehow. Now I get to program with my favorite command-line compiler! Thanks for making my happiness complete! =) have a nice day.

That's what I did migrating from 98 to XP. Had to find where they hid
the autoexec in XP and edit the paths there, and in the various bc/td
cfg files too.
